Dan Deweese Painting And Wood Finishing -Dan Deweese

What inspired you to launch vour business?

I am a second generation painter from Springfield, Illinois. I grew up painting for my father's company, R.L. Deweese Painting & Decorating. In my early 20's I worked for another local painting company. During my time at both companies, I learned everything I could and perfected many different aspects of the trade. I loved what I did but felt over-worked and under-appreciated. At age 30, I decided to start my own company with the sole mission to put my employees first and provide an unprecedented level or customer service.

What is your passion?

I love to refinish old furniture. Old furniture usually comes with a story about the relative who owned it or how it was brought to America. We hear the stories of how it has been passed down from generation to Generation. As the lavers of paint are removed. we can see all the various decades - the greens, yellows… all the trends from over the years. Sometimes we reveal signatures carved in the wood. We try to encourage our customers to restore the piece to reveal the beautiful aged wood. However, it is fun to be part of the creative process when the piece becomes repurposed and painted for the next generation to enjoy.

How do you start your day?

I start my day with coffee and time with my kids.

Favorite Local Businesses:

Anvil and Forge, Motorheads and El Dorado Taqueria.

What do you deem as success in business?

Running a profitable business definitely shows success. However, seeing my employees being able to live comfortably brings me great joy. I have watched several of my employees buy their first home, upgrade their car and take vacations with their families. That really is the biggest pay off for me.

What is your number one piece of advice for business owners?

Never let your business take over your life. Be sure to put family first. Make time for friends and activities. Time with family and friends is invaluable and will help keep you motivated.
