Gabi Thompson -Bloom Hospitality & Catering

What inspired you to launch your business?

My parents ran and owned Scampy’s. I loved being at the restaurant and helping them. Dad died when I was young. After more than a decade in the hospitality industry in Springfield, I decided to continue his legacy and build one for my children, Davin, and Ivy. I am so excited to see what the future holds for our new family business.

What is your passion?

When I launched the business, I knew I wanted to offer high-quality but affordable dining with impeccable customer service within a 30-minute drive of Springfield, Illinois. I believe that the rising tide lifts all boats and that there is room in the market for another catering company in the area. I am excited to work with fellow local businesses throughout the state.

How do you start your day?

Coffee first, then help the kids get off to school. I often take a 45-minute walk in the morning and back to the office to return emails or meet with clients. We live in Washington Park. It’s a great place to walk and gather my thoughts for the day, whatever the season.

Favorite local businesses?

Three Twigs & Co is a family favorite, and Just the Basics Mobile Bar is another fantastic locally owned business.

What do you deem as success in business?

Success is making a living doing something I love, offering top-quality food and services to my clients, working with, and supporting fellow entrepreneurs, and a balance between my work and my family so that we can spend quality time together.

What is your number one piece of advice for business owners?

Stay true to your ‘why,’ be organized but flexible, seek advice from fellow small business owners, and be open to new ideas.
